Paint brushes are nothing too complicated. But choosing the best watercolor brushes vs a not so good one comes down to the quality of manufacturing and materials used, as well as the research the manufacturer has done to ensure the best possible results for the painter. Some of the highest quality brushes in the world are handmade using proprietary techniques passed down for centuries to a select few. Others are just some nylon hairs glued to a stick.

To paint with watercolors, one needs watercolor paper. Preferably the best watercolor paper. I remember when I was a small child and I was given a set of watercolors as a gift. I never knew what to do with them because they’d soak through paper and not stick to canvas. It wasn’t until I was a big smart grownup that I began studying Art. As it turns out, watercolor paints require watercolor paper. 

Before we begin the list of my personal list of best watercolor paints, it may benefit to cover the basics of what watercolor paint is and how it works. This will help better inform your decisions when you go out and purchase your own paints. You’ll be able to make your own judgements. I’ve already tried many different products and am hoping that my experience helps ease the process for all artists looking into watercolor paints.
